There is a national society in 16 countries of the world which is known as National Red Cross, Red Crescent or Red Crystal. After the rise of Bangladesh on 16 December 1971, an application for recognition was made to the government on 20 December 1971 under the name of National Red Cross Society of Bangladesh. The activities of Bangladesh Red Cross Society started on 4th January 1972 with the approval of the Government of Bangladesh. Later, with the ex-officio approval of His Excellency the President, Bangladesh Red Cross Society was recognized as an Axuliary Organization of the Government through PO-26/1973. At the conference held in Tehran in September 1973, the Bangladesh Red Cross Society was officially recognized internationally. According to the announcement of the government of Bangladesh, on 4th April 1976, the name and symbol of the Red Cross Society was changed to Bangladesh Red Crescent Society and the symbol was changed to Red Crescent instead of Red Cross.
The Bangladesh Red Crescent Society is responsible for the welfare of the needy people in the country's disasters. The Bangladesh Red Crescent Society conducts its activities in accordance with the principles of the International Red Cross Red Crescent Movement while maintaining its independence from the law of the land. There are Red Crescent units in 64 districts of Bangladesh and in 4 old divisional cities (city corporations) through which the Society conducts its overall activities.

Each unit has an 11-member executive council and a 15-member central management board to provide policy advice and advice to the society. His Excellency the President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh is the President of the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society. He was appointed chairman of the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society for a term of three years.
Mandate of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society
01 In accordance with the rules and norms of the Geneva Conventions, the Society shall duly discharge its responsibilities as a recognized supporter of the Armed Forces Medical Services to assist the sick and wounded members of the Armed Forces of Bangladesh.
02 Race, religion, caste and political differences will play a role in preventing and eliminating the suffering of all people.
03 The International Committee of the Red Cross and the Red Crescent Movement will work to establish peace in all nations.
04 Provide appropriate assistance to alleviate the suffering caused by cyclones, earthquakes, floods, famines, epidemics and civil wars in Bangladesh and its bio.
05 Appropriate measures will be taken to improve health, prevent disease and alleviate the suffering caused by the disease.
06 will arrange training for first aid and nurses.
07 Establishment and management of Maternal and Child Welfare Centers.
08 To organize the youth of the country well.
09 will arrange for the provision of ambulance service.
10 Provide daily necessities and gift items for the welfare of hospital patients.
11 Commitment by the Society of Committees and Bodies constituted by the International Committee of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement to further expand the Society's objectives.
12 To take appropriate action on similar matters approved by the Society from time to time.
